Canning, freezing, and dehydrating—more people are enjoying these old (and new) ways to “put up” food. Whether you’ve been canning food for generations, or are totally new to food preservation, you will have a chance to learn the most up-to-date, research-based information at 2:00 pm in the Youth Building during the Old Time Gathering at the Dodge County Fairgrounds, Beaver Dam on Saturday, September 14.

Becky Gutzman, Master Food Preserver Volunteer, will present tips and techniques for safely preserving your garden bounty. You will have a chance to learn what equipment is needed for food preservation, and see some tools that make the process easier. Becky will walk you through the steps to ensure a safe and high-quality end-product. She will also have samples of the UW-Extension Food Preservation bulletins for you to preview.

There is still plenty of produce to preserve this fall, so if you are hoping to make some sassy salsa or appealing applesauce, plan on visiting the Old Time Gathering at the Dodge County Fairgrounds, Beaver Dam for inspiration!
