Michelle Jones, Sun Prairie, was browsing Facebook one day when a post in her home feed looking for tree sponsors at the Dodge County Fairgrounds caught her attention.

“I saw the add on Facebook and thought it was a great opportunity for our family,” commented Michelle. “We decided to donate a tree in memory of our sister, Melissa Jones, who passed away on July 3, 1999, from a drunk-driving accident.”

“We’re from Beaver Dam,” added Jennifer Jones, Madison, another sister. “Our parents are Robert and Melody Jones, and they still live here. We went to the fair a lot as a family.”

The new tree the Jones family decided to sponsor is located next to the open-class building. “I thought it would be a great idea to donate the tree in Melissa’s memory,” noted Michelle. “Now, when we come back to Beaver Dam for the fair next week, we’ll see the tree,” added her sister.

“We did a program like this a few years back for benches; 50 benches were sponsored and built,” commented Dale Norenberg, Dodge County Fairgrounds Board of Directors. “This is our first tree sponsorship, and we’re looking to add more. Tree-sponsorship money goes to pay for the tree and its installation; if anyone is interested in sponsoring a tree, they can call the fair office or e-mail us.” The fair-office number is 920-885-3586, and the e-mail is [email protected].

Fairgoers are always looking for shade to take a break from the hot summer sun. Recent tree disease has required the removal of several trees and we need your help to get them replaced. The non-profit Fair Association appreciates community support to maintain and improve the facility, used for several events throughout the summer.

To purchase a tree please send $250 per tree to:
