Open Class Beef Cattle Judging

Participation in the open-class beef cattle division is encouraged for both adults and children. The breeds included are Shorthorn, Angus, Hereford, and a category for other beef breeds combined. Age classifications are as follows: junior calf, senior calf, summer yearling, junior yearling, senior yearling, and cows aged two years and over. There are also categories for “get of sire” and “pair of calves.”

In addition to the standard exhibitor ticket fee, there is a stall charge of $2 per animal. The open-class exhibitor book provides more details, including health regulations.

Animals will be exhibited in the farm progress arena by both adults and children who are wearing appropriate show-ring attire and closed-toed shoes. Judging in the open-class beef division will take place on Wednesday of the fair at 10:30 a.m., following the junior beef breeding stock competition. Awards will be given for first, second, third, and fourth place in each category. Rosettes will be presented for the champion and reserve champion. Fairgoers are encouraged to sit and watch the judging process.
