Open-class participation in the beef-cattle division is encouraged for both adults and children. Breeds include Shorthorn, Angus, Hereford, and a class for other beef breeds together. Age classifications include junior calf, senior calf, summer yearling, junior yearling, senior yearling, and cows two years and over. There’s also “get of sire” and “pair of calves” categories. In addition to the standard exhibitor-ticket entry fee, a stall charge is applied: $2 per animal. Read the open-class exhibitor book for more details, including health rules. Animals are exhibited in the farm progress arena by adults or children wearing appropriate show-ring attire and close-toed shoes. Judging in the open-class beef division will be held Wednesday of the fair at 10:30 a.m. — following the junior beef breeding stock. First, second, third, and fourth place is awarded in each category. Rosettes are presented for champion and reserve champion. Fair goers are encouraged to sit and watch the judging process.
